Hiatus, but a return
I learned very quickly that there’s only so much writing that my mind can handle at once. Teaching, working, and writing substack posts is beyond the limit.
My term ended March 2 and then prepping for birthday parties and Craftcation began. Now I think my brain has finally settled to a point where I’m excited to bring you a FULL week of posts.
I’ll be posting Monday through Sunday and then, returning to our regular scheduled program. It’s my way of saying thank you for sticking with me while I stress through life.
I’ve been prepping for Craftcation. If you don’t know what that is, you’re truly missing out.
When I was first exposed to this wonderful conference in 2023 it was sold to me by an artist I follow on social media. She and her mom were enjoying a week away in sunny Ventura, CA doing crafts together and meeting new people. A conference about crafts, sold. At the time, I thought I had to be some fancy social media influencer to join or even to afford to go.
In 2024, I convinced (the emphasis because it took very little effort) a friend that we should go. At the time, she lived not too far from Ventura, so we could save money by staying at her place and travelling to the conference. We ended up choosing a different sleeping arrangement once there, but it still wasn’t overly expensive.
I discovered Craftcation is so much more than just a craft conference. It’s a community, a truly welcoming one.
You could be a beginner crafter or an experienced one, everyone will love you. Everyone is absolutely so kind and will cheer you on every step of the way.
This year, I dove in head first. I’m volunteering, I have an interactive artist showcase, and I’m selling in the pop-up shop. Surprisingly, I think the scariest part is the pop-up shop! It’s not imposter syndrome. I love my artwork.
For me, it’s delegation of the product making. I sent my artwork to be produced by a printer. They work on their own timeline and I’m not used to letting go.
I’m sure they’ll do a great job, probably better than I could.
Worst case scenario I have to last minute buy a fancy printer, which you know in my multi-passionate world - I want to buy a fancy printer anyhow.
Tomorrow, I’ll dive in more about the whole printing saga.
If you’re attending Craftcation, what’s your fondest memory? What’s kept you attending year after year?
