Oops. I forgot to post for awhile. Sometimes life happens and writing drops out of the priority list. Of course, then it becomes this daunting task that you know you should pick up again. I stared at my ideas list for a few days before forcing myself to just come here and write!
I wrote that paragraph and let it fester for a week and have returned again. I meet with my accountability partner today and that’s the real motivation that I need to set myself into high gear.
At my full-time job, some of my colleagues have been talking about Gretchen Rubin’s The Four Tendencies. Many years ago, I read her book Better than Before which also talks about these four tendencies. It’s how I discovered I tend to need some sort of outside accountability to complete tasks. It’s why I started the MFA program and it’s why writing Substack posts when I’m about to meet with my accountability partner are just easier than it would have been yesterday.
I’ve learned that I’m not great at creating an internal deadline. Actually, I’m great at making deadlines, I’m terrible at the follow-through. I completed the MFA program because I wanted to write a novel. I wrote a complete novel but now it needs all those things like editing and drafting and that’s a lot of effort for future Laura.
I’ll try for more posts for you now that I’ve overcome this daunting task. Also, since no one likes posts that are just straight words, please enjoy these festive Jellies - also available for purchase in a variety of wares including this cute tote.
