Special Occasion, Special Outfit
On a regular day, you’ll find me wearing leggings and a sweatshirt or a t-shirt depending on the weather. If I can lean into the casual, I will.
However, I love dresses and I have a plethora of them. Dresses just immediately feel fancy, even if they are simple t-shirt dresses. I recently discovered the brand Selkie and, in particular, their puff dresses and if I could make it look like a casual Saturday afternoon attire, I would totally wear them. We’ll ignore the price tag, this is dreamland.
I’m attending a wedding this weekend and I had not given any thought about what I was going to wear. I knew that I could just go to my closet and pick any of the dresses and they would work. They always works because dresses are fancy, especially as a regular attendee!
However, last night I tried on every single dress in my closet and I had a moment of panic like, “I don’t have anything to wear!” I know we’ve all experienced this at some point in our life. Luckily, for me, this did not end in a DOOM pile.
I had every intention of slogging through stores this evening and possibly finding a mediocre option. I even contemplated last-minute sewing a completely new dress or dyeing one of my white dresses. But! I have excellent friends who have assured me that I have made a great choice without going to extremes.
Here is a picture of the model wearing the dress (I haven’t worn it yet!). This picture is from the Ivy City Co Instagram.
I’ve come accustomed to the idea, probably from the culture, that if I’m attending a special occasion like a wedding or celebrating a holiday that I need something new. Truth be told, the dress I’m wearing to the wedding is already new but I didn’t buy specifically for this occasion. I bought it because I like it and that should be a good enough reason!
Are you in the habit of buying a new outfit for every event you attend? How do you remix your everyday wear to make it feel fancy?
